Day out in Scarborough

Robert. John and I went to Scarborough for the day on Thursday.
It was a glorious day - warm and sunny.

We had coffee at the Spa Cafe
Then listened to the morning concert: the Scarborough Spa Orchestra under the direction of Paul Laidlaw, played requests ranging from the Pirates of Penzance (Sullivan) to So Deep is the Night (Chopin/Melfi). This is the only remaining Seaside Orchestra in Britain. The performance was professional, fun and stylish in their 20's blazers. A highlight for me was the rendering of Pryor's "Whistler and his Dog" by Kathy Seabrook - she whistled on a whistle as well as through her fingers. Her flute performance of Denver's "Annie's Song" was also a treat.
We walked along the front of the South Side to Bamford's for lunch - as tasty as ever!

Then we continued along the Marine Drive to Peasholm Park and Northcliff Gardens

Too, tired to walk any further, we caught the bus back along Marine Drive. We hoped to have a meal at the Spa Cafe, but when I asked for toasted sandwiches, the assistant said, in a rather post-menopausal manner, "Oooh, we've finished with all that!" So we settled for a cup of tea and some sawdust chocolate cake. However, this was the only part of the day which did not score top marks. A good time was had by all!
